America's HOME FRONT
This button was made during the home front to keep the fire inside of Americans and to remember why we are involved the war. For more art and propaganda go to the following site: http://www.teacheroz.com/WWIIpropaganda.htm
Once America declared war on Japan, the American Peacetime Industry quickly turned to war production and this helped America out of the Great Depression. Everyone had a job. The men went off to war and women quickly stepped in and took the jobs needed. Women took up one third of wartime workforce. This went outside of the traditional women during this time. When woman were married, typically they quit their job. As the war started, every American was expected to make sacrifices to help with the cost of war. During the home front, victory gardens became very popular. A victory garden is a garden in a vacant lot because of the surplus of farm produce. Many people often collected scrap like metals to make ammunition such as bullets or old clothes to make into uniforms. Another popular trend was rationing. This happened in households where the family was issued a ration book. This book, which also included stamps, told the family how much of something they could purchase.
Britain's home front

The home font of Britain was similar to America's. The citizens we expected to support the war and boost morale in any shape or form. Women played a very important role in Britain's home front. They had to stay home and reuse, recycle and ration just like the women of American had to do. Women came into jobs they weren't used to such as mechanics, engineers, munitions workers, air raid wardens and fire truck rivers. After a bombing that lasted 57 straight days starting on September 7th, 1941, gas masks, air raid sirens and blackouts became apart of daily life in London, England. While dealing with Blitz attacks, the families of Britain still waited nervously from their men standing on the front line. A telegram, which carried the news of the death or capture of soldiers, became
universally feared symbol. Before the war, Britain had imported 55 million tons of food each year. October 1939, this number fell to just 12 million. Rationing was a lot more strict than it had been in the United States and lasted much longer. It wasn't just food. furniture was also rationed.

Germany's home front
The home front of Germany was very different than those of the Allied Powers. War economy became apart of every day life. It is in this war-dominated economy that the German citizens sacrificed and ultimately suffered the most. Just like the home front of Britain and America, rationing was popular. The German people were willing to sacrifice even before the war for change. A common saying in Germany during the home front as well as the others was "Guns before Butter". The home front became a changing landscape as the war progressed. When bombing became a part of life it affected the military morale.
Japan's HOME FRONT
Just like in America, women were forced to work in factories other than usual jobs. Even before the attack on Pearl Harbor, the industry in Japan was not just a wartime industry, but a total war industry. Women and children were ordered to work in factories as well as on farms. Because men were taken out of the farms and drafted into the military, food became an issue. This caused food shortages and a horrific famine throughout the country. The government had quite a few mistakes during this home front. Instead of being concerned with the future economy, propaganda was more worried about. This propaganda, of course, only reported victories.
sOVIET UNION'S HOME FRONT
Just as the rest of the worlds home front, women had to step it up. The society turned into a war time society. Food, clothing, leather and petroleum were rationed in the Soviet Union. thousands of factories were moved beyond the Ural Mountains along with well over a million workers. The Soviets as a whole dedicated themselves to the war and to be victorious in the end. The propaganda from the Soviets was quite different from the rest of the world. It was very mild and toned down. Religion, which was shunned prior, was acceptable in society during the war.
