Japanese Internment
Following the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941 over 120,000 Japanese-Americans were imprisoned. These Japanese- Americans were imprisoned based on their ethnicity because the US feared they had ties to their homeland. In 1942 FDR order all Japanese Americans to concentration camps, not as harsh as Nazi concentration camps, but children went to school and adults were forced to work for five dollars per day. Japanese- Americans knew if they were to escape they would be shot, they tried getting representatives to talk to the government to prove their loyalty to the states but nothing happened. After the war many people returned home, but there was hostility in the states and many could not find jobs or even sit a restaurant. To make peace, in 1988 the US government offered Japanese families 20,000 dollars.
